EECP

Treating illnesses using non-invasive methods with the help of state-of-the-art technology

What is Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP)?

EECP (Enhanced External CounterPulsation) is a treatment that increases blood circulation, clears blood clots and plaques, and improves the function of our body’s vital organs. EECP is a non-invasive procedure that involves wrapping long inflatable cuffs (similar to blood pressure cuffs) around the patient’s calves, thighs, and buttocks. The cuffs are inflated and deflated synchronously with each pulse while the patient is lying in bed, increasing blood circulation to the heart. The blood flow in the coronary arteries is increased during this treatment with the aid of modern devices such as computer technology, blood pressure monitor, and electrocardiography. These allow for precise timing of the inflation and deflation of the pressure cuffs in ways similar to the patient’s heart rate and blood pressure.

Why Use EECP?

EECP increases the volume of blood that returns to the heart, giving the heart more blood to function with. This decreases the amount of work the heart has to do on a much bigger scale, which is especially advantageous to people who have heart tissue damage. Patients who require EECP may have one or more of the following medical conditions:

  • Angina
  • Heart problems
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Unqualified as a candidate for invasive procedures such as bypass surgery, angioplasty, or stenting
