Gangrene develops when your body’s tissues die as a result of blood loss caused by illnesses, traumas, or infections. This is a dangerous health problem that can lead to amputation of the fingers, toes, hands, and/or feet. You can have gangrene in your organs and muscles, and gangrene can be fatal in extreme, incurable conditions. Dry gangrene, wet gangrene, internal gangrene, gas gangrene, Fournier’s gangrene, and Meleney’s gangrene are all examples of gangrene. All of these situations necessitate quick medical attention and help.

• Dry gangrene is characterised by dry, shrivelled skin (typically on the hands and feet) that ranges in colour from brown to purplish-blue to black. Dry gangrene can take a long time to develop, and the tissue in the affected area frequently peels off. Dry gangrene can develop and become wet gangrene if it becomes infected. Diabetes, vascular disease, and autoimmune disorders are the most prevalent causes of it.
• Wet gangrene develops when a bacterial infection develops in the afflicted tissue of diabetics who unintentionally hurt a toe or foot, or after a severe burn, trauma, or frostbite. Wet gangrene is characterised by swelling, blistering, and a wet look due to the presence of pus in the afflicted tissue. Wet gangrene must be treated as soon as possible since it spreads quickly throughout the body and can be fatal.

• Skin discoloration might range from pale to blue, purple, black, golden, or red.
• Swelling.
• Blisters.
• Pain that comes on suddenly and is followed by numbness.
• A foul-smelling fluid dripping from a wound.
• Skin that is thin and shiny, or skin that is hairless.
• To the touch, skin that is chilly or cold.
• Fever of a low intensity (usually occurs in cases involving gas gangrene and internal gangrene).
